Jo Moncrief is primarily a self-taught artist. Her education is in
Psychology but she always longed to do something artistic. Jo worked as
the Creative Coordinator for an advertising agency. This job allowed her
insight into the art world and she became a collector of original
artwork. Later she worked for a major airline as a Flight Attendant
which allowed her more flexibility to follow her true passion art.
Taking pottery in a summer class resulted in a 14 year obsession in
ceramics. Early in the 21st century, her ceramics became less functional
and more “painterly”. A decision was made to shift from a clay career
into painting on canvas.
In 2004, Jo became an acrylic artist and has never looked back. Her
abstract compositions are influenced by walks near her home... She
follows the patterns of shadows on the ground, the sun's reflection on
buildings & their surroundings. The intricate cracks and shading on the
sidewalk are a major influence in the composition and patterns for her
abstract designs. Her clay background has greatly influenced her colors
and use of texture in her paintings.
She has won Best of Show in a national art exhibition and many Best of
Category and First Place at many major juried art shows.
Her artwork has been featured in articles in the Dallas Morning News,
Ft.Worth Star Telegram, Van Zandt County Line, etc. She is a popular
workshop instructor and her artwork has can be found in many corporate
offices, hospitals and private homes.
